Biography
Mary Claire began young life with paper and art supplies always in hand. She thus attended Winthrop University to study Fine Arts with the intention of being an artist but with no real direction or voice. After a brief deviation from her passions to study law, she returned to art once her kids began to grow up. As both a practicing lawyer and artist, she finds the left brain/right brain blend improves the way she handles the tasks she is faced with. Being a Lawyer is relentlessly analytic, and she finds it lends her the ability whilst painting to make careful selections in mark making, value, color, and composition. This allows her to achieve a very specific result while editing the intuitive painting strokes; that are the very essence of her creative pursuit. The result is a beautiful balance of intuition and thought in each piece. Mary Claire grew up in the countryside in South Carolina and spent much of her youth hiking and wandering in the woods. She now draws much of her artistic inspiration from this passion - which she continues to practice. She seeks daily solace walking in the forest either alone or with her dog and kids. Her current artistic practice seeks the same sense of wonder and magic she feels when there. She is interested in creating a distinct mood and emotion within each piece, to create a dialogue with the observer and bring the collector’s vision to life.
